What is your personal favorite color combination?
The unexpected, all colors work together
Do you collect something?
I collect area rugs, art, old and new, I’m a craigslist junkie, I like to make the elegant out of funk
Do you have a “lucky” local establishment where you always find the perfect piece?
At an antique co-op on Kettner I found two acrylic, smoke black, globe lights…I had them re-wired and hung over my nightstands on either side of my bed.
Do you have a signature technique or piece that one would recognize in your work?
My work tends to run the gammet. I strive to show my clientele good design within their own aesthetic. I’m really open to many, many looks.
Going Green is all the rage — how do you incorporate environmentally friendly practices into your work?
Always encourage the client to reuse what can be incorporated into the new space, or find gently used items. I use “green” fabric lines, and flooring and countertops when possible. I try not to force the issue of “green”, but just use a common sense, small footprint approach.
Do you have a tip for hiding multi-media & technology so it doesn’t undermine your design?
Well there’s the usual cabinetry and wall unit approach, and then there is incorporating pieces which were not necessarily meant for that use. For example I have an old faux bamboo and marquetry china buffet I use for the tv in my family area.
Describe your dream job? Dream client?
Any job that goes reasonably smoothly, where the client and I are both really excited about the outcome, and things work as expected…that is the best!
When it is time to relax, what is your favorite room in your home?
I relax when my emails have been answered, my family has been attended to, and the laundry is done…I think the favorite room would be my master bedroom. Its pretty, soothing and comfortable.
What is your opinion of TV shows like Bravo’s Top Design?
Ummm, no comment.
Can you give us a trend prediction for 2009?
Less excess, more happiness….
