Research shows that social interaction and interconnectedness is a predictor of life satisfaction. This does not mean that a rich social network will make you uniformly happy. Social connectedness simply means we’re in this adventure together; we don’t need to be alone as we celebrate life’s ups and weather the downs. This sense of connection fosters a spiritual joy more profound than fleeting happiness.
Here are a few ways to forge new connections or deepen existing ties:
Join a book club • Cook with friends • Take a class • Host a neighborhood potluck • Volunteer • Call a friend who’s feeling down • Ask to see a friend’s family or vacation photos
