Easier Liposuction

Advances in laser technology have resulted in SmartLipo™, a rapid method of removing fat beneath the skin. SmartLipo targets localized pockets of fat, such as on the face, waist or hips as well as areas that are more difficult to treat with traditional lipo.

Unlike traditional liposuction, SmartLipo does not require general anesthesia and uses a narrower cannula (tube inserted as a surgical tool), and thus requires much smaller incisions. The laser dissolves the fat cells and the body’s lymphatic system naturally drains the resulting fluid. There is less bleeding than traditional lipo because the small blood vessels coagulate on contact with the laser beam. The laser also prompts production of collagen in the surrounding skin, which tightens and shrinks in response.

Sessions generally last 30 to 45 minutes and patients can usually return to work in 24 hours. Discomfort can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain medications. Bruising tends to dissipate after two to three days.

Laser delivery techniques continue to be refined; expect even easier treatments in years to come.
