After cosmetic surgery, you probably want to get back to your normal routine as quickly as possible. Depending on the type of procedure you’ve had, that time can vary.
Will I be able to handle the post-op pain?
Pain after cosmetic surgery is subjective, with some patients experiencing nothing more than a dull ache, while others feel greater discomfort. Procedures like liposuction, tummy tucks and breast augmentation cause more pain because muscles need to tighten around the treatment area.
How long will recovery take?
It depends on the procedure:
Eyelid surgery: You’ll be able to get around independently by the second day, and be back to work in 5–7 days.
Facelift:You’ll be up and about on the second day, but you may not be ready to be out in public for 5–7 days. You could be back to work in perhaps 10–14 days, depending on comfort level.
Abdominoplasty/Tummy Tuck: You’ll need 2–4 days until you are up and about independently. For a desk job, returns are usually 5–7 days, but for jobs with more activity, wait 10–14 days. Recovery is similar to that of C-Section.
How long until I can exercise again?
The answer depends on the procedure. A general regimen of slow walking is encouraged the second day after a procedure to aid in healing and circulation. More strenuous exercise is not allowed for the first two weeks to decrease the risk of bleeding, swelling, and bruising.
