Everything from “zucchini races” and bratwurst competitions to new thrill rides and “the world’s largest barbecue” await visitors to the San Diego County Fair at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, from June 14 to July 6. This year’s “Summer of Sports” theme celebrates a wide variety of sports through exhibits organized by youth and professional athletic groups. Additional attractions include hippity-hop horse races, woodworking displays, wine and tequila tastings and an ever-popular array of food vendors to pique our appetites along the midway. How does deep-fried Caesar salad sound?

Concert headliners include Grandfunk Railroad and The Guess Who (June 17), Micky Dolenz of the Monkees (June 19), B.B. King (June 26) and Fergie (June 27).

Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday; until 11 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for seniors 62 and older, and children 6 to 12 years of age. Kids 5-years-old and under are free. (Note: The fair will be closed on June 16 and 23.)
